Texas began SEC play 4–2 across six matches: two wins at Gregory Gymnasium and a 2–2 road split. Across those matches, the Longhorns won 12 sets and lost 10. The set totals show how the match results were distributed; conference standings are based on match wins, not the number of sets won.
The opening stretch has two distinct halves. Texas won at Tennessee, lost at Kentucky, then beat Mississippi State, Alabama and Arkansas in succession. Oklahoma ended that three-match winning streak on October 11. The conference record is 4–2, while the overall 8–6 mark also includes eight nonconference matches. What changed during the October road trip?
At Arkansas, Texas lost the first set 22–25, edged the second 29–27, and won the next two 25–20 and 25–19. The box score credits Ramsey Gary with 34 digs, while Torrey Stafford had 29 kills. The comeback and the second-set margin help explain why a four-set final contains more than the simple W in a standings table. Texas Athletics box score.
Two days later, Oklahoma won 25–23, 25–18 and 30–28. The first and third sets ended with two-point margins, but Texas did not win a set. Stafford recorded 17 kills and Henley Anderson 12. The road trip therefore finished 1–1, and Texas's conference road record stood at 2–2. Texas Athletics recap.
